Embedding Video in Email Newsletter

Community

A recent Forrester report says that incorporating video into your email marketing campaigns can increase click-through rates (CTR) by up to 2-3 times.

Here is how we embed video in email newsletters for Managing The Edge subscribers (Have you subscribed yet?)

Embed Video in Email Newsletter

It’s very easy and it works fantastic. Basically we take a screenshot of our video player – including the “PLAY” icon (yes that’s important) – and we drop it in our email right up top. Last make the image a link to your post or wherever you want the user to land and you are all set!

And that’s it – you’ve got video in your email. Granted – it’s not true streaming video but it gives the impression and induces clicks. “Real” video embedding is not supported by most email clients and servers – so this is the best solution available to ensure your email is delivered.

  • boo
Don't call it embedding if it's not embedding.
  • It is embedded... It's just not playable.

The point is - it works.
  • boo squared
I agree with boo, and felt misled by this article title. Call it "linking to video" or "providing your email users with video content" or something else.

"It is embedded… It’s just not playable."

No, it is not embedded. It is an image link to video content elsewhere. It does not work all the time. For example, it won't work If somebody is viewing their downloaded email offline, like on an airplane. It also may not work on email capable mobile devices like the iPhone, for example, if the link goes to flash video.
  • Hear hear. Do not play with definitions. I am currently working on embedding video in email myself and it is actually possible.

The only duff thing is that the majority of business users out there will not be able to see it due to the hefty firewalls in the way.

    Anyhow, something for the future...
